1st visit to PD after bone marrow test

Mummy: As advised by PD on Wed 23 Apr, although the test does not show any existence of cancerous cells, but the WBC is still v high.. Dr. Vasanthi had suggested to let Ervin start the oral medication of steroid today.. She oso told us to do another round of bloodtest prior to our visit.

Thus, on Friday morning we brought Ervin to SK polyclinic for bloodtest, his 5th bloodtest.. :-( Then we brought Ervin alongwith the bloodtest result to Dr. Vasanthi's clinic at Parkway Parade..

It was a long wait (more than an hr).. When Dr. Vasanthi saw the bloodtest result, she was happy as the WBC count has reduced by half !! From the previous 60+ to 31 now.. Though the normal range should be ard 12-15, but we were v happy as this is the FIRST TIME the WBC count has dropped ! BUT, the eosinophil is escalating to a high of 63 (normal range is 0-6) !!
Nevertheless, Dr. Vasanthi decided to postpone the steroid medication for Ervin.. Yippee !!! She told us to go for another round of bloodtest 2 weeks later..

I hope the eosinophil will reduce in 2 weeks time, & hope it will reduce by itself just like the WBC which reduce to half by itself WITHOUT any medication..

Mummy: Following the bone marrow test done on the past Mon, 1st result was out yesterday. Doc said MOST LIKELY not leukemia as no cancerous cells found.. So relieved after hearing that.. But the white cell count is still v high and doc said that ervin's case is a v rare case.. So gotta wait for 2 more results to be out to confirm.. Will be bringing ervin back to doc tis Fri for him to start on oral medication..

Jab marks

Mummy: Took off the bandage this morning as advised by the nurse.. Ervin was brave enuf to endure the pain and let me do it without much struggling.. My brave boy..

Felt so sim tia when i saw the jab marks and bruises around tat area.. Though the test was done while Ervin was put to sleep, i can imagine how big the needles were..

Look at those jab marks & bruises.. :(

This big plaster was ripped off from ervin's body..

Bone Marrow Test

Mummy: Brought ervin to Mt E for the bone marrow test with a heavy heart.. :( Hb worried abt the jam at CTE thus we left home v early at 6.30am though we were required to be there ard 7.45am for admission.

After the admission procedures, we were led to the ward at level 10.. Dr. Kenny arrived first as he will be the one to draw blood for further test and to sedate ervin for the bone marrow test while Dr. Vasanthi will be doing the bone marrow test herself..

The nurses & Dr. Kenny suggested that we leave the room as we will find it more heart pain hearing ervin's cries if we stay there.. So hb & I waited outside..

We went back abt half hour later after they are done with the all procedures and saw my darling prince still sleeping.. He woke up abt 15 mins later, cried and wanted me to carry him. Although the nurse told me it's better to let him rest on the bed sideway, but i can't bear to let him cry so I carried him and he slept for another 20min in my arms..

I let him took a few sips of water.. Make 4 oz of milk but he doesn't want to drink.. Instead he ate some bread wif kaya (his standard breakfast)..

Half hour later, i asked him if he would like some milk and he nodded his head.. So we made 4 oz of milk again for him.. he finished every drop up.. He also finished 5 oz of ribena which we made.. Ate some biscuit as well..

Luckily he reacted ok after consuming all the food and we were given the green light to discharge him..

Dr Savanthi told us that the result will take abt 1-2 weeks.. Another round of waiting game.. sigh..

Waiting for admission at the lobby..

A happy ervin..

Sad day

Mummy : Less than 2 hours after returning from Mt E, the PD called me up to deliver a bad news.. The white cells count has increased even higher compared to the 2 previous bloodtest.. And the eosinophil shoot up too.. PD suggested that a bone marrow test to be conducted asap.. he recommended a bone marrow specialist to us and set up an apptmt on the same aftn 2.30pm..

I brought ervin down to meet the specialist, Dr. Savanthi and hb joined us there.. Dr. Savanthi examined ervin and could not find anything wrong wif him physically though the bloodtest result was so negative.. She advised that it is better to do the bone marrow test asap than to let the white blood cell multiply even further.. We could not get a bed at Mt E the next day (Sat) thus the test date was scheduled for Mon 21 Apr 8.30am..

I think due to too much crying in the day, after i returned home in the evening i fell sick.. Had a terrible headache, feel nauseous, serious runny nose..
My sil came by to visit us in the evening and I feel better after she gave me some massage.. Thanks, Karen..

Done alot of thinking on ervin's condition in the late evening after the kids were asleep.. I am actually more worried abt the result of the test rather than the physical test itself.. I hv a strong feeling that the result is not what i want to hear and i am not sure how i am going to take it.. I really hope it is not Leuxxxxx....

Bloodtest, bloodtest & bloodtest... Poor Ervin :(

Mummy: It started with a series of fever which come & go since mid March.. The fever in mid march lasted for a week, then ervin was OK in the following week.. Then in early april, he had fever which lasted a day long twice in a week.. In btwn this period, he oso had diarrhoea.

4th April : Brought ervin to GP as he is having quite high fever (38.3 deg), the GP was concerned abt his fever which come & go and told me to bring him to SK Polyclinic to do a bloodtest on the same morning. Thus, I rushed to polyclinic for the bloodtest and brought him back to the GP with the result.. GP said that ervin has a high white cell count. He said tis may be due to his fever.. He decided to put him on antibiotics and told me to do a 2nd bloodtest 1 week later..

11th April : Brought ervin to Policlinic to do bloodtest 1st then take the result back to GP.. GP frowned when he looked at the result.. The white cell count was even higher than previous. Another substance also exceeded the normal range by alot.. GP was concerned with the result as this bloodtest was taken when Ervin has recovered from fever. Thus, he refer us to a PD, Dr. Siva from Kinder Clinic.. So hb & i rushed ervin there on the same evening.. Dr. Siva checked ervin and found that he looked OK (except some wind in his tummy) although both bloodtest results were worrying.. he said there might be an error in the reading (i hope so..).. he suggested that we do a 3rd bloodtest for ervin 1 week later + a stool test and see how's the result..

18th April : My mum helped ervin to poo in the morning and the stool sample has to reach the hospital within 3 hours.. Thus i quickly bring ervin & his stool sample to Mount Elizabeth. At the same time, he did the 3rd bloodtest.. tis time, the bloodtest was different from the previous 2 occasions. The previous bloodtest at polyclinic was done by pricking his 3rd finger, this was less painful.. this bloodtest done at Mt E was drawn from his vein and using a bigger set of needle and 2 full tube of blood was drawn (compared to only abt 10 drops of blood drawn at polyclinic) .. Ervin cried v badly.. Feel so sim tia to see him go thru this at such a young age..

Now waiting for the result to be sent to Dr. Siva's clinic.. Hope his result will improve..

Breastfeeding

Mummy : I am surprised that I could breastfeed Erlene for almost 8 weeks liao and i mean 50% on EBM and 50% on FM.. This may not be a great deal for other mummies who are on TBF.. but for me, it is an achievement i m rather proud of.

Thinking back, Ervin was breastfed for less than 1 month and was on only 10% EMB and 90% FM due to a few reasons (unable to latch him on as he is the impatient type and i was lazy in pumping)..

When i was breastfeeding Erlene during my hospital stay, i was surprised i could do it on my own w/out the help of the nurses. That was the moment when i could really feel the bonding feeling with my baby which i did not experienced with Ervin as I totally could not latch him on without the help of the nurses.. I must say Erlene's patience help me in latching her on successfully.. thanks, my darling princess..

When i returned home after the hospital stay, i did tried to latch her on as many times as possible to stimulate supply. But somehow the latching get lesser & lesser until i decided to just express it out.. Life has been very busy for me now that I have 2 kids plus the fact that Ervin is still cranky and just want my attention, it really make me tired physically & mentally. This greatly affected my pumping routine. Of cos my laziness oso play a part..

I am currently pumping 4 times a day and hope that i can maintain this routine when i return to work.. Or at least able to breastfeed erlene throughout the whole 3-mth ML..

These are the spare EBM which i stored in the freezer.. May not be alot to some, but it's a great achievement for me.. I dun even hv a spare pack of EMB for Ervin during his time!!

.
These few packets have been thawed and ready for consumption..

Carter's rompers for Erlene

Mummy : Just received these Carter's rompers for Erlene which were purchased from the BP.. Like them v much esp the fushia pink piece tat said "I love daddy".. :=)
